Meet the Lab
We’re based at University of Adelaide in South Australia. But our network extends worldwide.
Staff and Students
Dr Arif Malik
Lab Manager, Postdoc
My research focuses on developing methods to verify the species and geographic origin of timber and other plant products. I also worked on a variety of eDNA projects, such as using soil microbial community composition in forensics applications.
Dr Colette Blyth
Postdoc
My research focuses on plant conservation genetics and climate-adapted seed sourcing strategies. Alongside applied research and student supervision, I also coordinate projects and working groups on genetic resource management for the DivSeek Australasian Hub.
Brittany Hogben
Research Assistant
I support ongoing projects in timber tracking, eDNA and genetic resource management. My interests include wildlife conservation and the use of molecular methods to inform management decisions.
Dona Kireta
PhD Student
My research uses genomic tools to explore how ecosystem restoration can have better outcomes, particularly pollination services and native bee diversity.
Melita Low
PhD Candidate
My research focuses on DNA identification tools for economically important timber species belonging to the Family Dipterocarpaceae on the island of Borneo.
Alex Mason
PhD Candidate
Exploring bio-fertilisers and inoculants for sustainable agriculture, specifically the development and utilisation of soil microbes for soil carbon retention and plant productivity.
Emily McAllan
Honours Student
I am very passionate about plant conservation, with a particular interest in swamp ecosystems. My honours project investigates the population genetics of plants endemic to the endangered Fleurieu Peninsula Swamps.
Chelsea Hampel
Honours Student
I am passionate about conservation of native endangered plants. My research investigates the influence of soil on population genetics and speciation of spidery wattle (Acacia araneosa), to inform the genetic management plan for this species.
Kiri Marker
Communications Officer
My role at GROWE involves maintaining their website and writing content to communicate their research. I also develop and implement the communications strategy for our partner organisation DivSeek International Network.
Dr Zdravko Baruch Glaser
Visiting Associate Professor
My research involves the ecophysiology of Australian non-model plants, numerical analysis of rangeland vegetation, soil microbiome ecology and diversity. I am also available for project/thesis assistance to students.
